You are agate, the banded chalcedony that fills old gas bubbles in lava one microscopic layer at a time. Cut one open and you find rings of color that took thousands of years to form. You are the same: there is always more to you than the outside suggests, and the people who take the time to look are rewarded.

You are patient, observant and a natural collector of stories, objects and people. You remember details others forget and connect them in ways that surprise everyone. You are steady rather than dramatic, and you find comfort in ritual and repetition.

Your strengths

  • Patient, layered thinking
  • Great memory for people and details
  • Comfortable being underestimated

Watch out for

  • Keeps the best parts hidden too long
  • Slow to speak up in groups
  • Collects more than you can carry

How to tell real Agate at a glance

  • Color: Banded, Blue, Brown, Red, Green, Gray. Look at a clean, dry surface in daylight. Color zoning, banding or spots are as diagnostic as the hue.
  • Luster: Waxy. Compare a fresh surface with glass and metal; this luster is softer than either.
  • Transparency: Translucent. Hold a thin edge up to a bright light and note whether light passes through.
  • Mohs hardness: 7. It scratches glass and a steel knife and cannot be scratched by a steel file.
