About Chert

Chert is a hard, fine-grained sedimentary rock composed almost entirely of microcrystalline or cryptocrystalline quartz, formed either by direct chemical precipitation of silica or by the accumulation and diagenetic alteration of silica-secreting organisms like radiolarians and diatoms.
